Prompt Optimization: The Path to 100% Accuracy
Most AI errors are actually "User Errors" in the prompt. In this lesson, we teach you how to refine your inputs to ensure the AI produces accurate, safe, and useful results every time.
🔹 How to Improve Output Instantly
If your output is too generic, it's usually because you didn't define the Three Golden Constraints:
- Audience: Who is this for? (e.g., "A 5-year-old," "A Board of Directors," "A Senior Developer").
- Format: How should it be structured? (e.g., "Bullet points," "A formal letter," "JSON").
- Tone: What is the vibe? (e.g., "Aggressive and salesy," "Empathetic and clinical," "Technical and dry").
🧩 Optimization Example
❌ Generic Prompt
Explain AI.
✅ Optimized Prompt
Explain AI to a 10-year-old child using simple analogies from video games. Format the explanation in 5 bullet points. Avoid any technical terms like 'neural networks' or 'transformers'.
🔥 Reducing Hallucination: The "I Don't Know" Rule
Hallucination happens when the AI is "too helpful" and tries to guess an answer it doesn't know. To fix this, you must give the AI Permission to Fail. Add this line to your system prompts:
"Use only factual information from the provided text. If the answer is not present in the text, or if you are unsure of the facts, explicitly state 'I do not have enough information to answer this'. Do not invent details."
Optimization Checklist
- Did I specify the target audience?
- Is the format clearly defined?
- Is there a word count or length constraint?
- Did I provide a reference text for grounding?
- Did I give the AI an 'out' for unknown information?
Common Questions
How do I stop ChatGPT from making things up?
By adding the 'Factual Grounding' constraint: 'Only use the provided information' or 'If you are unsure, say I don't know'.
Put it into practice.
